Engineer, Operations Technology Security

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE 

The Operations Technology Security Engineer partners directly with Operations Technology (OT) teams to ensure operational systems and devices are securely configured, monitored, and accessed. This role focuses on protecting SCADA, control systems, field devices, and supporting OT infrastructure while enabling safe, reliable utility operations. The engineer will bridge IT security practices with OT realities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Partner with OT teams to assess, design, and implement security controls for OT environments.
  • Define secure configuration standards for OT devices, servers, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Support secure remote and local access to OT systems, including role-based and least-privilege access models.
  • Own and administer OT-specific security platforms (e.g., Dragos, Claroty, Nozomi)
  • Conduct OT security risk assessments, vulnerability reviews, and remediation planning.
  • Collaborate with network teams on segmentation and secure IT/OT convergence.
  • Support incident response activities involving OT systems and coordinate with external specialists as needed.
  • Ensure alignment with TSA Pipeline Security Guidelines/Directives, NIST, and ISA/IEC 62443 frameworks.
  • Assist with vendor and integrator security reviews for OT solutions.
  • Develop OT security standards, procedures, and documentation.
  • Participate in audits, tabletop exercises, and regulatory assessments.
  • Coordinate disaster recovery and operational continuity planning for OT systems and networks. Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum education required of the position 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • In lieu of a degree, equivalent OT experience considered.

Minimum experience required of the position 

  • 6+ years of experience in OT, ICS, or cybersecurity roles, with direct exposure to industrial or utility environments.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position 

  • Understanding of OT/ICS environments, SCADA architectures, and field devices.
  • Familiarity with OT security frameworks and regulations.
  • Familiarity with working in safety-critical or regulated infrastructure environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with operational teams.
  • Practical, risk-based approach to security in operational settings.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position 

  • Preferred:
    • ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity
    • GICSP
    • CISSP
    • SANS ICS certifications

Physical Requirements 

  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop. 
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time. 
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment. 
  • Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
