Engineer, Zero Trust Security

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Zero Trust Security Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, implementing, and operating modern Zero Trust security controls across Delta Utilities’ IT and cloud environments. This position focuses on network security enforcement, identity-driven access controls, and secure application access using technologies such as next-generation firewalls, conditional access, and cloud-based SASE platforms. The role partners closely with identity, cloud, endpoint, and network teams to reduce attack surface and enforce least-privilege access aligned with Zero Trust principles.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design, implement, and maintain Zero Trust security architectures aligned with NIST 800-207.
  • Engineer and operate firewall and network security policies, including segmentation, egress filtering, and inspection for IT and OT environments.
  • Own administration and optimization cloud SASE platforms for secure internet access and private application access.
  • Implement and tune identity-driven security controls including Conditional Access, MFA, device posture, and risk-based policies.
  • Partner with IAM and endpoint teams to integrate identity, device health, and access enforcement.
  • Develop and maintain standards, baselines, and technical documentation for Zero Trust controls.
  • Support secure access for SaaS, cloud, and on-prem applications while minimizing reliance on traditional VPN models.
  • Collaborate with Security Operations to investigate and remediate access- or network-related security incidents.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and security design assessments for new systems and applications.
  • Support audits and regulatory reviews related to network and access security.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. In lieu of a degree, 4 years of experience in addition to the standard experience listed below is required.

Minimum experience required of the position

  • 6+ years of IT or cybersecurity experience with at least 3 years focused on zero trust security engineering.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust concepts, least privilege, and identity-centric security.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud SASE (e.g., Netskope, Zscaler, Cloudflare) and modern NGFW platforms.
  • Experience implementing Conditional Access in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Familiarity with cloud security in Azure, OCI, AWS, and SaaS environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.
  • Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments preferred.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

  • Preferred:
      • Certification in Cloud SASE platform (e.g., Netskope, Zscaler, Cloudflare)
      • Microsoft Security Engineer (SC-200 / SC-300)
      • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Security Professional
      • CISSP or CCSP
      • Network security certifications (Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.)

Physical Requirements

  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
