Director, Cybersecurity
Position overview
Delta Utilities is seeking a highly experienced cybersecurity leader to serve as a cybersecurity director. This role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive cybersecurity program tailored to the needs of a natural gas utility firm.
The ideal candidate will have experience with hands-on leadership, ensuring that all cybersecurity practices and procedures align with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The cybersecurity director will oversee the security operations post “go live,” ensuring the organization’s infrastructure, data, and operations remain secure from cyber threats. It is a full-time position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and manage a robust cybersecurity program specific to the natural gas utility industry
- Develop and implement cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures to protect the company’s assets and data and conduct risk assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
- Lead cybersecurity operations, including monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and recovery
- Ensure that cybersecurity controls are in place and effective across all systems, particularly post “go live”
- Oversee the management of security tools and technologies, ensuring they are up-to-date and properly configured
- Ensure the company’s cybersecurity practices comply with industry regulations
- Prepare and manage audits and assessments related to cybersecurity, working with regulatory bodies as needed
- Maintain awareness of evolving cybersecurity threats and regulatory changes, adjusting the program accordingly
- Build and lead a cybersecurity team, providing guidance, training, and support; foster a culture of security awareness throughout the organization, promoting best practices and regular training
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and other departments to integrate cybersecurity into all aspects of the company’s operations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for cybersecurity matters, communicating risks and strategies to senior leadership
- Coordinate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders to enhance the company’s cybersecurity posture
- Oversee cybersecurity operations post “go live,” ensuring continuous protection and improvement of security measures
- Monitor the effectiveness of implemented controls and adjust as necessary to address emerging threats
- Lead incident response efforts, ensuring rapid and effective resolution of any security breaches
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology (IT), or a related field; a master’s degree or relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, etc.) is highly desirable
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably within the utility or similar regulatory industry
- Proven track record of building and managing cybersecurity programs tailored to the specific needs of utility companies
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, tools, and technologies, including those specific to SCADA systems, industrial control systems (ICS), and other utility-specific environments
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to guide teams, influence stakeholders, and drive the implementation of cybersecurity initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks and develop effective mitigation strategies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex cybersecurity concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to cybersecurity, capable of working independently and leading efforts from inception to completion

In February 2024, Delta Utilities entered into an agreement with CenterPoint Energy to acquire its Louisiana and Mississippi natural gas businesses, which currently serve approximately 381,000 customers. Once the transactions are complete, Entergy's Louisiana natural gas operations and CenterPoint Energy's Louisiana and Mississippi natural gas systems will be operated by Delta Utilities.
