SCADA Engineer
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Delta Utilities is seeking a SCADA Engineer who is responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining SCADA systems and measurement technologies used in natural gas operations. This role ensures accurate monitoring, control, and reporting of gas flow and system performance through integration with Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) and telemetry systems.
Travel: This position will have some travel of at least one field visit per month. All of our locations are within Orleans, LA Parish and Baton Rouge, LA, metro. A company vehicle will be provided.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide Gas Distribution and Transmission Engineering Support for Gas Operations.
- Support duties include technical support for Gas High Pressure Measurement groups (large industrial measurement, gas pressure regulation, gas odorization equipment)
- Technical expertise in Gas AGA Measurement types 3, 7, and 9 (orifice meter, turbine meter, ultrasonic meter)
- Responsible for Gas SCADA system administration and support. Focus is to support the Gas Dispatch Center (GDC) to ensure 24/7 monitoring of Gas Distribution, Transmission, and Generation systems.
- Assist GDC with technical assistance regarding SCADA system (host database queries, trend building, automated reports, Ad Hoc reporting, alarm database management).
- Assist New Orleans and Baton Rouge measurement groups to identify, troubleshoot, and repair SCADA/measurement related problems (field RTU programming, PID control, telecom, telemetry and measurement issues,).
- Monitor SCADA system performance, system backups, verify historical database functioning correctly and perform database management.
- Responsible for ensuring accurate measurement at Gas Supplier City Gate locations and daily/monthly review of Gas Dispatch vs Supplier volumes for any anomalies
- Responsible to provide (as needed) gas technical measurement expertise for sizing specialized gas pressure regulating equipment for customers
- Responsible for R&D testing new gas measurement equipment to improve safety, accuracy, or efficiency of gas personnel
- Document SCADA troubleshooting procedures/solutions
- Aid GDC supervisor in developing SCADA training for operators as needed
- Work extended hours in emergencies and be available with other supervisors for afterhours call outs. (SCADA host failures)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil and Chemical, Industrial) from four year accredited institution. Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered. Or other related field of study, such as, Computer Science or Math.
Minimum experience required of the position
- 2+ years’ experience in an engineering discipline.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Excellent computer system skills required (MS Word, MS Powerpoint, MS Excel)
- Experience administrating a Windows Server environment (managing users, group policy changes, managing updates, etc).
- Exceptional communication skills are necessary to work with other technical groups to troubleshoot and address problems.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong interpersonal & teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple functions and departments
- SCADA administration experience
- Gas Distribution/Transmission utility experience
- Experience managing remote monitoring and control systems
- Experience managing TCP/IP networks
- Experience in instrumentation, calibration, transmitters, PLC logic
- Basic understanding of various telecommunications technologies
- Familiarity with modbus and/or other communication protocols
- Familiarity with IT networks and equipment (routers, switches, etc…)
