Associate Inspector Gas

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Delta Utilities is seeking an Associate Inspector Gas to plan, coordinate and inspect the field work performed by outside contractors with the objective of assuring that work conforms to company standards, specifications and schedules. Work includes but is not limited to installation, operation, repair of gas mains and service lines and service-related work that is performed at the customer’s meters.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs, monitors, and inspects contractor construction activities and completes related documentation to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements and construction agreements.
  • Attend construction meetings with government representatives (city, county, state) to obtain and provide construction project updates, and relay the information to the crews and management.
  • Provides accurate and complete field construction documentation including a detailed list of materials used on the job and ensures timely processing of related records to maintain the integrity and accuracy of company records.
  • Reviews and prepare daily progress reports for compliance with applicable contracts and agreements.
  • Responds to customer inquiries for construction or conversion information, provides customers with project status updates and post installation troubleshooting to ensure complete customer satisfaction with the service delivery process.
  • Reviews vendor invoices. Verifies charges and quantities and for work performed and processes as necessary.
  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy and completeness of as built construction drawings.
  • Occasionally work night and call outs to support the service delivery process.
  • Occasionally travel to various gas districts to support the service delivery process.
  • Randomly performs non-destructive and destructive testing on plastic and steel joints for QA/QC and system integrity.
  • Coordinates work with contractors throughout the build process for compliance with project scope and specifications.
  • Observes and inspects all phases of work performed by contractors to assure conformance with company standards and procedures. Interprets blueprints and drawings of work to be performed
  • Responsible for QA/QC and inspecting work performed by one or more contract crews
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of SAP and SAP’s work environment (ESD, MM, etc.)
  • Ability to compare materials issued versus material installed and invoiced utilizing SAP work order system and account for materials used by contractors
  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Requires a high school education or GED with the equivalent knowledge of English, grammar and basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculation of fractions and/or percentages)  

 

Minimum experience required of the position

  • Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of gas construction or related work experience. 
  • Having experience in any of the following is preferred:
    • Large tapping/plugging
    • High pressure/high stress pipeline
    • Corrosion prevention
    • Protective coatings
    • Cathodic protection  
    • Coating inspection and certification.

 

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

  • Able to meet and maintain performance and attendance criteria for the job.
  • Able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of natural gas distribution operations and installation procedures.
  • Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and business acumen.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Able to work in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve objectives.
  • Able to apply basic mathematics to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculation of fractions and percentages, and arrive at a correct result.
  • Able to demonstrate strong negotiation skills.
  • Able to provide a valid state driver's license and present and maintain a good driving record and to operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Able to interpret blueprints and drawings of work performance to determine that work is conforming to company standards and plans and complies with DOT requirements
  • Able to apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
  • Able to direct co-workers and coach and train others.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, pass all required training courses within the required timeframe.
  • Able to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills with co-workers, customers, community members and/or contractors and vendors.
  • Able to understand and comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, company and industry operating standards and safety procedures.
  • Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently.
  • Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the company.

  • Able to use a Personal Computer and mainframe software programs such as Mobile Data and/or ESD in SAP.

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. PREFERRED for the position

  • CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
  • NACE Certification
  • AMPP Certification

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted
  • Able to operate a personal computer monitor or laptop screen.
  • Able to work in an office environment and in outside field locations, including able to tolerate exposure to all weather conditions; hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment and noise
  • Able to travel outside of primary work location, in any weather conditions and occasionally overnight, to field locations, remote areas, conferences and/or meetings
