Manager, Claims (Liability & Worker Compensation)
Position Summary
The Claims Manager is responsible for overseeing the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims related to property damage, personal injury, environmental incidents, and other liabilities associated with natural gas utility operations. This role ensures timely and cost-effective claim handling while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Claims Oversight:
- Manage and resolve claims involving third-party property damage, bodily injury, and environmental liability.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Operations, Legal, Safety) to gather facts and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of claims and settlements.
- Investigation & Evaluation:
- Conduct or oversee investigations into incidents and accidents.
- Evaluate liability and exposure based on evidence, regulations, and company policies.
- Recommend settlement strategies and negotiate with claimants or their representatives.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure claims handling complies with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., PHMSA, OSHA).
- Prepare reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Vendor & Legal Coordination:
- Liaise with insurance carriers, legal counsel, and third-party adjusters.
- Support litigation management and discovery processes when claims escalate.
- Reporting & Analytics:
- Develop and maintain claims dashboards and KPIs.
- Analyze trends to identify risk mitigation opportunities.
- Training & Process Improvement:
- Train field staff on incident reporting and claims procedures.
- Recommend improvements to claims handling processes and systems.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, or related field (required).
Minimum experience required of the position
- 5+ years of experience in claims management, preferably in the utility or energy sector.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Strong knowledge of liability, insurance, and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred
- Experience with natural gas utility operations or infrastructure.
- Experience with managing claims, including workers compensation, and litigation
