Industrial Hygienist
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Delta Utilities is seeking an experienced and versatile Industrial Hygienist will lead efforts in identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational health and safety hazards across our operating footprint. This position focuses on industrial hygiene programs while also supporting broader safety initiatives in field operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Environmental, and Safety personnel to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce employee exposures, and improve the overall safety culture. This is a high-impact role with companywide responsibilities and travel requirements ranging from 25–50%.
**Please Note: This position can reside in our Shreveport, LA office or our Pearl, MS office.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTION
Industrial Hygiene Program Management
- Conduct air sampling, noise monitoring, and exposure evaluations for chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, and thermal hazards.
- Lead and maintain IH programs for: - Asbestos - Lead - Mercury - Hexavalent Chromium - Silica - Respiratory Protection Program - Ergonomics Program - Heat Stress Management
- Coordinate scheduling and tracking of required respiratory fit testing and audiograms in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy.
- SDS Management: Maintain the SDS database and representative access; review new SDS requests and verify operations are prepared to manage new chemical hazards.
- Maintain, calibrate, and utilize IH sampling equipment; oversee IH data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Review IH data trends, audit results, incident reports, and sampling records to identify potential risks and communicate findings.
- Conduct or support IH-related audits and inspections.
- Investigate employee health complaints and recommend corrective actions.
Safety Support & Field Engagement
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, and field visits to support operational safety performance.
- Conduct and support incident investigations, including root cause analysis.
- Develop and deliver training on topics such as respiratory protection, heat stress prevention, hazard communication, ergonomics, and exposure control.
- Assist in updating policies, programs, and procedures related to IH and safety programs.
- Support emergency response planning and incident investigations.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Health, Safety or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum experience required of the position
- 5+ years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably in the utility or energy sector.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, ACGIH, NIOSH, EPA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with industrial hygiene sampling equipment and software.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- Certification or eligibility for CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to perform on-site inspections.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

- Field and office-based work; occasional travel to operational sites.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and elevated areas.

- Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.
- Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
- The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize and analyze are required.
- Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
- Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily to participate in emergency response activities.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
