Meter Reader, AMR & ERT Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Delta Utilities is seeking an AMR (Automated Meter Reading) & ERT (Encoder Remote Transmitter) Maintenance Meter Reader to read industrial, commercial and residential meters by assigned routes and/or appointment to ensure timely and accurate monthly measurement of energy consumption.  Ability to identify and work non-registering equipment including programming and installing ERT devices.


ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Reads gas meters by operating automated reading equipment: Mobile Collector / Hand Held units. 
  • Loads assigned computer discs into the Hand Held unit / Mobile Collector computer and frequently monitor the computer to ensure acceptable daily response rates.  Downloads and returns discs for processing.
  • Verifies meter identification numbers and document readings to assure timely and accurate billing of our customers’ energy consumption.
  • Plots daily route using charts, maps, and existing procedures to ensure effective operation of the Mobile Collector technology. 
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of route/cycle structure.  Makes notes and changes location codes and data describing customer premises to help other meter readers perform their duties in a safe and more efficient manner.
  • Observes, notes and reports irregularities of route, Mobile Collector equipment, vehicle, and response of Encoder Receiver Transmitters (ERT’s), to ensure supervision is aware of any potential problems.
  • Responds to our internal and external customers’ requests, questions, and concerns in a manner that meets customer expectations.
  • Partners with customer relations providing information and prompt resolutions to customer account and audit requests.
  • Observes documents and communicates gas leaks, suspected gas theft, or malfunctioning of equipment and other hazardous conditions to ensure customer and employee safety and compliance with company policy.
  • Participates in training and cross training to increase job knowledge and competency.
  • Able to provide and maintain a valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Identify non-registering ERT’s.
  • Works investigate ERT orders, including ability and knowledge to use the necessary equipment and tools to re-program an existing ERT or to install and program new ERT device on meter.
  • Ability to read meters either using mobile collector or handheld Itron device.
  • Manual reads (gauges and other larger meters), re-read orders.
  • In certain locations, may require overnight stay for mobile collecting.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required of the position

  • Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages), punctuation, grammar and spelling.


Minimum experience required of the position

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years of current work experience in meter reading operations.
  • Knowledgeable with Itron Meter Reading Equipment

  • Able to demonstrate thorough working knowledge of the policies, practices, procedures and business processes supporting manual meter reading, automatic meter reading and ERT maintenance processes, including ability to understand and develop working knowledge of software and hardware components.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the meter reading cycles, segments and routes.
  • Able to use mainframe software programs such as Mobile Data.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to operate a personal computer, including working knowledge of word processing software.
  • Able to understand and evaluate software, hardware and other technology.
  • Able to use the proper tools for any given job.
  • Able to demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with customers on the routes in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Able to meet all physical requirements, competency-based assessments, pre-employment background checks, pre-employment drug screen and other selection criteria determined by the company.

 

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and no moving violations within the last 12 months.


Physical Requirements

  • Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
  • Able to perform on-site inspections.
  • Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Able to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
  • Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

  • Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
  • Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
  • Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
  • May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
