Accountant, Corporate (General Ledger)
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The Experienced General Ledger Accountant independently manages day-to-day ledger activities, ensures accuracy of financial data, and plays a key role in month-end and year-end close processes.
The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and supporting month-end close processes. This role involves recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
***Please Note: This position can be hired as a General Ledger Accountant or a Senior General Ledger Accountant.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
General Ledger Accountant:
- Independently record financial transactions and prepare journal entries.
- Perform account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of balances.
- Support month-end and quarter-end closing processes.
- Analyze financial data and report variances.
- Assist with audits and contribute to process improvements.
Senior, General Ledger Accountant:
- Maintain accounting master data: Manage, approve, and communicate changes in all accounting master data which impacts the general ledger.
- Record financial transactions: Accurately record daily transactions in the general ledger systems, including journal entries for cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue, expense, assets, liabilities, and equity.
- Month-End Close: Manage and execute the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Prepare or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and support documentation. Analyze variances and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.
- Analyze financial data: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues.
- Maintain accounting records: Ensure accounting records are accurate and complete and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
- Account Reconciliation: Prepare or review monthly account reconciliations and ensure intercompany accounts balance between systems.
- Assist with audits: Assist with external audits as needed.
- Perform accounting research: Assist with research and make accounting decisions that support reporting requirements.
- Process Improvements: Develop and implement process and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned: Perform other accounting tasks as needed, providing financial information to management as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field.
Minimum experience required of the position
General Ledger Accountant:
- 3 plus years of accounting experience
Senior, General Ledger Accountant:
- 5 plus years of accounting experience
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
General Ledger Accountant:
- Good understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Senior, General Ledger Accountant:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills proficient with working in a collaborative and supporting working environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent project management skills are required, including the ability to manage multiple and frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Experience with ERP systems

Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
