Sr. Accountant, Property & Cost Allocation
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The primary responsibility of this position is to run and monitor monthly cost allocation process and support the fixed assets process to ensure accurate and timely accounting for project costs and fixed assets. Performs complex, professional, technical work related to the preparation and the maintenance of the company’s fixed asset records and systems. This position is responsible for related balance sheet reconciliations and process development within the department. This position works with various financial and governmental auditors with respect to project and audit preparations. Considerable judgment and independence are required to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, rules, and State and Federal laws and regulations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Run monthly allocation process to allocate service company costs to operating companies and properly clear various clearing account pools within Oracle PPM & GL.
- Monitor inputs into cost clearing accounts to ensure items were properly charged and coordinate corrections as necessary.
- Review and update various cost allocation factors on quarterly basis or as needed within Oracle PPM & GL.
- Records fixed asset additions and retirements in PowerPlan.
- Assists in formulating accounting policy and procedures involved in the tracking of job costs and maintenance of property, plant, and equipment records.
- Reconciles plant-related balance sheet accounts.
- Assists in reviewing, interpreting, and correcting all information in PowerPlan.
- Works with various business unit representatives to resolve questions related to job/project costs.
- Ability to cover all Fixed Asset Accounting duties during absence of others in group.
- Perform research, journal entries, and fixed asset entries, as needed.
- Prepares complex monthly accounting journal entries.
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations.
- Supports and/or processes the monthly close cycle.
- Creates, updates, reviews, investigates and distributes schedules and financial reports pertaining to various phases of accounting functions.
- Coordinates the preparation, analysis and verification of complex accounting reports to support responses to data requests in connection with regulatory filings and audits.
- Ensures that all transactions are properly supported and are in accordance with GAAP, FERC, SOX, and other regulatory requirements.
- May provide guidance, direction and training to other employees engaged in similar activities as well as other internal customers.
- Document accounting procedures, processes and internal controls. Reviews for effectiveness and recommend revisions as necessary.
- Provides internal and external customer support when needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
Minimum experience required of the position
- 4 plus years of related experience in Accounting or Financial Analysis.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers in order to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or modifications on technical or other complex concepts to individuals with little or no background in the area under discussion, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform analyses involving ratios, percentages and simple statistical methods.
- Knowledge of various software applications to create documents, reports and/or graphics.
- Preferred:- PowerPlan asset system, oracle GL, oracle PPM

Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
