Mechanic, Shop
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Provides specialized skillset needed for pipe fitting, welding, services and metering/regulator stations. Responsibilities also include performing physical labor tasks such as cutting pipes, etc. Fabricates specialized meter sets. Must have good mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools and small power tools.

- Ability to communicate and work with the public in a pleasant and tactful manner and understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.
- Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Ability to collaborate with engineering to review as-built drawings, records, and all other paperwork
- Utilize basic personal computer applications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- High School Diploma or GED
Minimum experience required of the position
- Mechanic, Shop II: 2 – 4 years’ experience fitting/welding/fabrication
- Mechanic, Shop Sr: 4 plus years’ experience fitting/welding/fabrication
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Must have knowledge with using combustible gas indicator (CGI) and leak detection equipment.
- Must have the ability to safely manage emergencies and other hazardous situations and manage multiple activities and changing priorities.
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- Must possess and maintain the following:
- American Petroleum Institute 1104 welder certification
- D.O.T. Office of Pipeline Safety operator qualification as it pertains to gas service work. ***This can be accomplished as part of on-the-job-training within 1 year
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Minimum Chauffer’s license. ***Must obtain within 6 months of hire
- Valid driver’s license required
- Preferred: Must reside within 45 road miles of the reporting location.
Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to perform on-site inspections.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

- Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.
- Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
- The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize and analyze are required.
- Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
- Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
Notice: As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
