Gas Service Technician
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. Handles customer requests and represents the Company in the community.
***Please Note: This position requires you to live within 30 minutes of Water Valley, Mississippi or relocation within 30 days of hire date. We are not offering relocation at this time. This position will have up at least 50%-75% travel daily to our customer locations within our Mississippi work territory. A company vehicle will be provided, which will require a valid, non-expired, Driver's License and no moving violations within the last 12 months.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Initiates gas service and performs leak investigations and repairs.
- Locates gas lines.
- Reads gas meters.
- Conducts load surveys.
- Completes work orders in system for documentation.
- Serves as First Responder in emergency situations.
- Conducts Cathodic Protection system monitoring activities.
- Conducts odorization activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Requires a high school education or GED for any level Service Tech listed below.
Minimum experience required of the position
- Service Tech I: Requires no prior work experience.
- Service Tech II: Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in gas distribution or related field.
- Service Tech III: Requires a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in gas distribution or related field.

Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to perform on-site inspections.
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 50 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.

- Job duties are performed in a normal and clean office environment with normal noise levels.
- Work is predominately done while standing or sitting.
- The ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize and analyze are required.
- Able to work daily in all types of weather conditions.
- Able to work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
- Able to handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
- Able to work rotating shifts, if required.
- Able to respond to emergency calls and/or callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Able to wear and operate personal protective equipment, such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear and earplugs daily.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts.
Notice: As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.
