Adjuster, Claims (Liability)
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The Claims Adjuster will oversee general liability, workers compensation and automobile-related claims. The role is responsible for overseeing the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims related to property damage, personal injury, environmental incidents, and other liabilities associated with natural gas utility operations. The Claims Adjuster ensures timely and cost-effective claim handling while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. This role also involves engagement with inside and outside attorneys to manage litigation related to claims matters.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Review and resolve claims involving third-party property damage, bodily injury, and environmental liability.
- Coordinate with internal departments (Operations, Legal, Safety) to gather facts and documentation.
- Conduct or oversee investigations into incidents and accidents.
- Liaise with insurance carriers, legal counsel, and third-party adjusters.
- Support litigation management and discovery processes when claims escalate.
- Communicate with Operations personnel to obtain additional details as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date claim files.
- Process approved claims for payment.
- All other claims related tasks assigned by Legal Department leadership.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or finance is a plus
Minimum experience required of the position
- Five (5) or more years of professional claims experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of direct claims adjuster experience
- Preferred:
- Experience in natural gas or utility industry
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Proficient in MS Excel handling pivot tables, reporting and data analytics
- Familiarity with Company operations and claims systems
- Strong understanding of operations policies and procedures
- Excellent data entry and data processing skills
- High attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and a solid understanding of claims management.
- Preferred:
- Familiar with SAP Software

Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Able to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Able to exert up to 10 Lbs. of force occasionally, and /or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push or otherwise move objects.
