General Ledger Accountant
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Delta Utilities is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and experienced Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our growing finance team. This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, LA.
The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and supporting month-end close processes. This role involves recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
This position could be hired as an Analyst, Senior Analyst or Senior Lead Analyst depending upon qualifications.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain accounting master date: Manage, approve, and communicate changes in all accounting master data which impacts the general ledger.
- Record financial transactions: Accurately record daily transactions in the general ledger systems, including journal entries for cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue, expense, assets, liabilities, and equity.
- Month-End Close: Manage and execute the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Prepare or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Analyze variances and provide explanations for significant fluctuations.
- Record employee expense: Execute the processing and reconciliation of employee expense reports to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Address discrepancies and provide training to employees on expense reporting systems and guidelines.
- Analyze financial data: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues.
- Maintain accounting records: Ensure accounting records are accurate and complete and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
- Account Reconciliation: Prepare or review monthly account reconciliations and ensure intercompany accounts balance between systems.
- Assist with audits: Assist with external audits as needed.
- Assist with monthly close process: Manage the monthly close process and keep track that all processes and related dependencies are occurring within the correct sequence. Timely communicate delays or issues to management.
- Process Improvements: Develop and implement process and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and process improvement initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned: Perform other accounting tasks as needed, providing financial information to management as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Minimum experience required of the position
- Analyst: 3+ years of experience in general ledger accounting
- Senior Analyst: 5+ years of experience in general ledger accounting
- Senior Lead Analyst: 7+ years of experience in general ledger accounting
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills proficient with working in a collaborative and supporting working environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position
- CPA certification
- Experience with ERP systems

- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts
