Manager, Corporate Accounting
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
Delta Utilities is seeking a Corporate Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance with regulatory standards, timely reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. This role manages the month-end and year-end close processes, regulatory filings, coordinating audits, improving internal controls, and leading a team of accounting professionals. The Corporate Accounting Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, regulatory, and operations, to support strategic initiatives and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting Operations & Process Improvement:
- Lead month-end close and consolidation process of accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions including reviewing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and overseeing intercompany transactions, and eliminations.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Monitor and ensure proper recording of revenue, expenses, and cost allocations.
Regulatory & Industry Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory accounting guidelines, including FERC, state public utility commissions, and other regulatory bodies.
- Support rate case proceedings by preparing financial data, responding to regulatory inquiries, and collaborating with regulatory teams.
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, industry regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and recommend necessary adjustments.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting department.
- Collaborate with finance, operations, and regulatory teams to provide financial insights and support business decision-making.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
Minimum experience required of the position
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a regulated utility or energy industry, public accounting, or a related role.
- Supervisory or management experience in an accounting function.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, FERC accounting, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in ERP accounting systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
